Service Upgrades

Service Upgrades & Panel Swaps

Powering up for the future.

Service upgrades and panel swaps become necessary as your electrical needs grow over time. They’re also a smart form of electrical maintenance—requiring updated fuses, breakers, and a full assessment of the conductors in your panel.

Why Service Upgrades Matter

Most of the time, a service upgrade is needed when additional load is added to the home. Lately, it’s more common than ever—with EV chargers leading the way.

To put it in perspective:
An EV charger can draw as much, or even twice as much power as your electric oven.

Other major upgrades like kitchens, HVAC systems, or additions may also push your current panel beyond its limits.

Any device that generates heat pulls more electricity than nearly anything else in your house.
These are often 240V appliances (like dryers, ovens, water heaters) and are called dielectrics.

Raising the Bar on Service Upgrades

Over the last 15 years, I’ve completed countless service upgrades. But I’ve recently decided to raise the bar.

Here’s how Green Street Electric does it differently:

  • We install conduits—even when others won’t.
  • We protect and hide your ground wires—because exposed copper is too easily damaged or stolen.

Real Story:

In 2023, I replaced a service in Petersburg after a thief stole the exposed copper ground wire from outside a home. That theft caused dangerous overheating in the customer’s panel.

Since then, I’ve made it my mission to protect your copper grounding better than anyone else. It still surprises me how often this critical wire is left exposed and vulnerable.
